The 2007 Nestle Very Best In Youth: Outstanding Youth Make a Difference With Conviction
PRNewswire
GLENDALE, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2006) -- Across the nation, the extraordinary efforts of some of America's youth are making the world a better place, and their outstanding leadership abilities have raised the standards of what it means to truly make a difference. They are young authors, future marine biologists and may possibly hold the key to curing some of life's most threatening diseases. To them failure is not an option, but merely an opportunity to prove that anything is possible with a little determination, heart, and compassion. These young people are America's future. They are the Nestle Very Best In Youth.
Nestle USA, in partnership with former National Football League Superstar and youth enthusiast Jerry Rice, has once again launched a national search for the Nestle Very Best In Youth -- an award program honoring young people between 10 to 18 years of age, who have excelled in the classroom, and contributed to the betterment of their communities. Following the November 1, 2006, nomination deadline, 25 young winners will be recognized, honored and named the 2007 Nestle Very Best In Youth.
"Our hope is to inspire America's youth to become more involved in their communities and strive to be their best," said Jerry Rice, Nestle Very Best In Youth program spokesperson. "Today's youth are our future. They will be leading the way towards positive change, and it is our responsibility to enable them to succeed and reward those who are already making a difference."
In an effort to reward these amazing youth, Nestle will be rolling out the red carpet in honor of their extraordinary accomplishments. Along with being named a Nestle Very Best In Youth, the winners will receive:
* A trip to Los Angeles, California, with a parent or guardian for a
four-night, five-day adventure;
* Round trip coach air travel, hotel accommodations for four nights, and
spending money;
* An allowance for a tuxedo rental or gown purchase to be worn to the
"red-carpet" premiere where the awards ceremony will take place;
* A check for $1,000 to donate to a charity of the recipient's choice
(thus far Nestle USA has donated over $600,000 to support
winners' charities);
* The stories and achievements of each award recipient will be featured in
the Nestle Very Best In Youth book, which will be available in the
summer of 2007 with complimentary copies being distributed to schools
and libraries nationwide
"This is the tenth year of the Nestle Very Best In Youth program," said Ken Bentley, Nestle USA vice president of community affairs. "We are looking for kids who are making a difference in their communities and are not afraid to go after their dreams. Past award recipients have surpassed all expectations and expect they will continue to do so throughout their lives."
From collecting donations throughout neighborhoods and schools, to organizing a community car wash and soliciting donations from local businesses, Nestle Very Best In Youth 2005 winners raised $230,000 in one-day fundraisers for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Nestle USA foundation matched the winners' efforts, for a total donation to the American Red Cross of $460,000. These are the kinds of inspirational kids who will join more than 150 past award recipients to become the 2007 Nestle Very Best In Youth.
