While NFL success starts with skilled players, team chemistry remains vital.
"If you want to be a dynasty, you have to find and keep guys who feel we're all part of a chain," future Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice said. "If you're a weak link, the team can't have success. If you're not setting the right example, if you're a distraction, you weren't going to be around long in San Francisco."
Not all 32 franchises define character in the same manner. For Detroit coach Rod Marinelli, commitment to the game and to your teammates goes a long way.
